How to live when Wikipedia dies
As has been noted elsewhere, Wikipedia died for a bit today. Maurice and I also noticed this while doing some research earlier.
The error message that was given by Wikipedia was particularly nice. It even included a link to a Google search for the URL you were looking for, telling you to check out the Google Cache of the page.
This is great if you've already found the page on Wikipedia's site that you want to look up, but if you don't know what you're looking for, here's a quick way to use Wikipedia all through Google (most of you probably know most of this, but it's worth noting again).

- Instead of searching for something from Wikipedia's web site, search for it from Google's, asking only for Wikipedia pages. If you want english pages only, this would look something like so (notice how this uses the 'site:en.wikipedia.org' notation to only search within en.wikipedia.org).
- Then, instead of clicking on the actual link, just click the link for the cached version of whatever result you wanted to check out.

You can even eliminate the first step, searching the cache directly by prefixing your URL with "cache." For example, cache:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Masters_Tournament

Thanks for the comment. You can't really use the "cache:" keyword to search, though (that I know of, at least). The cache keyword presumes you know the exact URL in Wikipedia you are looking for. The goal here is to search Wikipedia for a page you don't necessary know the URL to.
Heya - I started using Lexipedia on my pocket PC 3 days ago - I swear it IS Wikipedia on my pocket PC, albeit without pictures or illustrations... I can also imagine that the ".epodia" file for the i-pod will be the same - no illustration, just words; This is further supported that the pocket PC version of Wikipedia (Lexipedia) database and the ".epodia" file are both around the 750MB mark...
