February 12x30 Report Card: B

I figured I should start recapping my 12x30's after each month to look back and see how I did.

The goal for February was to blog every day of the month. I definitely did not achieve that. However, I still feel like I accomplished a lot this month in terms of blogging more often and being more comfortable blogging. (Also: I was out of town for 7 days this month which made blogging much more difficult.)

Overall, I give myself a B for my efforts.

Here are some stats:
  • Of the 28 days in February, I blogged 13 of those days. Just under 50%.
  • Take away the 7 days I was out of town, and I blogged over 60% of the days in the month.
  • Of those 13 posts, 11 of them were about technology and the other 2 were about the 12x30 program.
  • Previous to February, I had a total of 90 posts on this blog which began in June, 2005. So, thanks to my 12x30, I added approximately 14% more new posts in just one month.
  • The two most searched for stories (of these 13) were My experience with Prosper and Salesgenie.com "deliver a targeted message".
Now, to start the March 12x30. I think I'm going to switch up what I originally wrote I was going to do for March (read every day) and instead do my original plan for April: work on Openomy everyday. We have a lot of great ideas that are all about to come out very shortly so this'll be a great time to work on it daily!

Two More 12x30 Ideas

(Note: I might write a second post later tonight, since this is a cop-out post, but I actually want to do this for my own memory.)

I've come up with two more ideas for my 12x30 project. Along with these goals I'll now be through May.
  • Openomy (April). No, Openomy is not dead. Not even close. Unfortunately, we just don't have much time to work on it these days. But, I believe if I make it a 12x30 and try to work 1.5hrs/day or launch a feature once/week, we'll see some drastic improvements (also, stay tuned, as we'll be launching a HUGE new change shortly).
  • Learn A New Programming Language (May). I'd like to spend some time learning a more "wacky" languages every once in a while, so I'll spend a month diving into one or more of these languages.

My 12 Goals

Like I said in my last post, I'm going to attempt to try 12 new things for each month of 2007.

I haven't quite figured out all 12 goals, but I've started a list of things to last me a few months. As I come up with more, I'll be sure to post them.

For now, here's what I've come up with:
  • Tae Kwon Do (January). There's no real meaning to taking Tae Kwon Do, which I started in January, other than to get in shape, try something new and exciting, and have a great way to relieve stress. So far, I'm loving it!
  • Blogging (February). I would love to be a regular blogger, reporting on all the things I find interesting throughout a day. Clearly I have little interest in telling you about the drama in my life, and much more interest in talking about the things that excite me (technology, business, startups, Openomy, etc.), but even that takes some courage and effort to talk about each day. This month I'm going to try to post once per day to get in the rhythm of posting.
  • Reading (March). Currently I read two to three times per week, mostly on the bus while going to work. I'd really like to have a solid reading session once per day and be able to finish off books on the order of a week, rather than month.
That'll at least get me through the first quarter of my 12x30.

My New Year's Resolution

Ah, one month later. Approximately three weeks after you thought you had another 49 weeks until you had to read YABNYR (Yet Another Blogger's New Year's Resolution). But, alas, mine comes now. Sorry.

So, why a month late? Well, that's because of the resolution. 2007 is going to be my year of 12x30.

What's that? Basically, it's my attempt at doing Steve Pavlina's 30 Days to Success 12 times this year. I'm going to try 12 new activities every day (or almost, at least) for each month in 2007.

My goal here is to expand my horizons in ways other than I normally would on a day-to-day level. The key to my choices will be getting out of my comfort zone.

I haven't yet chosen all 12 activities yet, but I'll get to that shortly. I have chosen January and February.

In January I started taking Tae Kwon Do every Monday/Wednesday/Friday followed by self-practice on the majority of other days.

February is the month of blogging. Every day I plan to blog something. I want to become a regular blogger, but it's just so damn easy to turn it off and let my blog go stale. Hopefully blogging every day this month will get me into the habit of blogging regularly, making it harder to stop than it often is to start. I think you'll learn a lot more about technology, Seattle, business, blogging, and me in the process!

So, here goes nothing!
